Awakened by P.C. and Kristen Cast
Goodreads Summary: At the start of Awakened, the pulse-pounding eighth installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey has returned, mostly whole, from the Otherworld to her rightful place as High Priestess at the House of Night. Her friends are just glad to have her back, but after losing her human consort, Heath, will Zoey—or her relationship with her super- hot Warrior, Stark—ever be the same? Stevie Rae is drawn even closer to Rephaim, the Raven Mocker with whom she shares a mysterious and powerful Imprint, but he is a dangerous secret that isolates her from her school, her red fledglings, and even her best friends. When the dark threat of Neferet—who is coming closer and closer to achieving her twisted goal of immortality—and Kalona returns, what will it take to keep the House of Night from being lost forever, and what will one desperate girl do to keep her heart from being irreparably broken?
My Take: FINALLY! PC and Kristen Cast redeemed themselves! I really liked the first 4 books in the series, but after book 4 the series gradually started to go downhill.
The 5th book was "eh" and I was truly annoyed by the end of both books 6 and 7. The 2 prior books had me drawn into the story and kept me anticipating a really good ending that NEVER CAME! By that point I thought PC and Kristen were losing interest or dragging the books on too long, and they were ruining my opinion of the books. I kept thinking, “please be done already!” And, "can you PLEASE give me an ending?” Oh, and let’s not forget about all the guys Zoey kept selfishly stringing along. Ugh!
Now I am back on board! You know why??? I loved this book! The first part of Awakened I really liked, then it started to drag (I was thinking “NO! NOT AGAIN!”) but about the middle of the book I was sucked in! At that point, I COULD NOT put it down. Put it this way, I stayed awake until 3am just so I could try to finish it.
The ending to the book was A-MAZE-ING!!! There was a little bit of a cliffhanger, but it was THE perfect twist! It may be the best ending to the whole series! I know the plan is to extend the series for a few more books; as long as they keep this up, then I'm on board!
