Goodreads Summary: That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.
At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?
The second novel in the addictive FALLEN series . . . where love never dies.
My Take: Now that I am finished, this book left me more frustrated than the first one did. I don’t even know how to describe my annoyance with this book.
I was thinking the Shadows or “Announcer” would be something completely different so I am happy that they played a big part in this book. I don’t know if I understood it wrong or if it was explained wrong in Fallen.
Now back to my irritation. Did I miss something? I still don’t get why Luce (a human) plays such a big part in the balance of power and in the “The War” against Angels, Demons and now Outcasts??? Why did Luce’ first boyfriend burst into flames? Why does Luce explode in all of her thousands of previous lives at the age of 17 but not now? If she is human why can she summon Shadows? Ahhhhh! Why does EVERYONE care if she lives or dies? In Fallen they said that she will not return if she dies in this lifetime because she was not baptized…so why doesn’t she get baptized???
OK. I will shut up about everything that made me mad about this book and say…I really liked the change in setting. She was able to attend a school of Nephilim (basically descendants of angels). I liked the new characters even though I missed some of the characters in the first book. And guess what? They all show up in the end!!
A lot of the book was about Luce learning about her past lives and realizing that her lives didn’t JUST revolve around Daniel. I really liked that. I was going to vomit if this book revolved all around their never ending love for each other.
I could go on and on about this book but I tried really hard to avoid spoilers in this review.

I was in a book store today and I had this book in my hand and now I'm really glad that I didn't decide to buy it after all (I ended up ordering Entwined and Wither on Book Depository and yay to that!), because I really, REALLY hate books that just don't make sense. I know what you mean when you say you were frustrated. I hate when authors come up with random facts and rules for the plot, but don't bother to make it all click in a logical way.
Thanks for your review, it was very helpful! :)
Great review. I was also left so frustrated after reading Torment. I just thought it was like starting from the start again and half of the information was useless. Lets hope the next book is better :) Donna x
It just doubled the unanswered questions from Fallen. I think we will definitely find out why Luce is so important in all of this.
I think she hasn't burst into flames this time because she wasn't baptized and didn't grow up with religion. I think she can't just solve the problem by getting baptized now because you have to be born into a religion to be baptized if ya get me.
This could just be my desperate attempt to find out at least one answer though!
When I reviewed these two books I gave them both 5 stars because I was so consumed by them!
