Linda Poitevin Interview: Sins of the Lost Blog Tour!

About Linda

Linda Poitevin was born and raised in B.C., Canada’s westernmost province. Growing up in an era when writing was “a nice hobby, dear, but what are you going to do for a living?”, Linda worked at a variety of secretarial jobs before applying to be a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Due to an error in measurement, however, she was turned down when she didn’t meet the height requirement of that time. Undeterred, Linda became a civilian member in the force and was a dispatcher for two and a half years, during which time she met her husband, a police officer.

Following their transfer to Ottawa, Linda went on to become a real estate agent and then a human resources consultant before starting a family. She remained a stay-at-home mom, homeschooled her youngest daughter for nine years and, now that she has realized writing can be more than a nice hobby, she continues to live her dream of being a cop vicariously through her characters.

Linda currently lives near Ottawa with her husband, youngest of three daughters, one very large husky/shepherd/Great Dane-cross dog, a cat, two rabbits, and a bearded dragon lizard. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found in her garden or walking her dog along the river or through the woods.

In addition to her books, Linda also does freelance writing and editing. Information about her services can be found at www.lindapoitevin.ca. Linda is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, Quebec Writers’ Federation, Romance Writers of America, RWA Futuristic Fantasy Paranormal Chapter, and Ottawa Romance Writers’ Association.

Grigori Legacy #3

From the author of Sins of the Angels and Sins of the Son comes the newest novel in the “electric, thrilling and extremely intelligent” (Ex Libris) Grigori Legacy series.

Heaven and Hell are on the brink of war as Lucifer builds his Nephilim army and waits for his new agenda to become a reality — that of having a Nephilimchild of his own bloodline to lead his forces to cataclysmic victory.

With rumors of the pending war rampant on Earth, Alex fights to save humanity from its own panic leaving little time for her fledgling relationship with Seth, the man with heavenly origins who has captured her heart. But when Nephilim children begin to disappear, along with Alex’s own vulnerable niece, the inevitable war between Heaven and Hell becomes as personal as sin.

Heaven has its own plans to fight the coming apocalypse, but first it needs Seth back. Asked to betray the man she loves, Alex must turn for help to the soulmate she thought she’d given up — the Archangel Aramael, who may be her last chance to save her family and humanity from the ashes of Lucifer’s Armageddon.

In 10 words or less can you tell us about Sins of the Lost? Death. Destruction. Chaos. Love. Loss. Pain. Redemption. War. Hot angels. Will that do?

How did the idea of Grigori Legacy series come to you? I remember sitting in the theater watching the movie City of Angels and being vaguely dissatisfied with how nice the angels were. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great movie and I loved it, but I wondered what it would be like if angels really did walk among us, but they were tougher...harder...more warlike. That was the start of my “what if” chain of questions.

Which character was your favorite to write in the Grigori Legacy series? So far one of my favorite characters to write has been Lucifer, because he’s also been one of the most challenging. I really wanted to avoid the stereotypical ‘devil’ image and make him fully three-dimensional, with solid motivations for his fall from Heaven and his subsequent behavior. Climbing inside his head to achieve that wasn’t easy, but it really helped me grow as a writer, because I had to look beyond the obvious and keep asking why until I reached the character’s true essence.

What scene did you like write the most in the Grigori Legacy series? So far in the series, my favorite scene has been between the One and Lucifer in Sins of the Lost. I obviously can’t give details because of spoilers, but suffice it to say that it was positively heart-wrenching to write and so, again, an enormous challenge.

What which book was easiest for you to write in the Grigori Legacy series? The first, Sins of the Angels, for two reasons: first, I was new to the publishing world and so there were no reader expectations as yet (so less pressure, at least in my head!); and second, I didn’t have any prior books to which I had to remain true in my story line!

Getting to know you:

Phobia or fear? Will a distinct hatred do? Earwigs. *shudder* Definitely earwigs.
Guilty pleasure? Real cream in my coffee. But in my defense, I did give up sugar.
Strange quirks? Folding towels. They have to be done a certain way or else I have to redo them. I blame my mother.
Facebook or Twitter? Both. I seriously love the communities that I’ve found there.
Most visited online website? See previous question.
Kindle or Nook? Kobo, actually. I like to support the underdog.
Preferred weapon? If it’s one of my characters using it, a broadsword. There’s just something so...mmm about a sword, don’t you think?
Favorite youtube video? Goodness...that’s a tough one because I try to avoid videos as much as possible when I’m on the computer. If I started watching Youtube on top of Facebook and Twitter, I’d never get any writing done!
Top 5 authors that inspire you? Kelley Armstrong, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Benedict Jacka.
Top 5 fave movies? The Avengers; Iron Man; Spiderman; Star Trek; and the BBC Pride & Prejudice mini-series (not really a movie, I know, but still wonderful!).
Top 5 fave books? A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson; any of the Dresden books by Jim Butcher; Ashfall (and Ashen Winter) by Mike Mullin; Pride & Prejudice, by Jane Austen; Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë.
Favorite TV show and/or movie when you were a kid? Bewitched! I practiced trying to wiggle my nose for hours, convinced that if I could, I too could do magic.
Thank you Linda for stopping by Magical Urban Fantasy Reads!
It was my pleasure, Mindy—thank you so much for having me to visit today, and for participating in the Sins of the Lost blog tour!

The mythology in the series is so unique. I love how different it is from the 'normal' urban fantasy :)

The Gregori Legacy interests me because I like that it's about angels. And I like that there's someone mysterious with wings on each of the covers. Now I need to find out who that is :) Thanks for giveaway! ^_^

The combination of mortal and angel hit-man sounds intriguing! Seems to me that it could also be made into a movie or series. Thank you for the giveaway!
